| Your lifting options explained |
|
Lifting operations within the construction industry have been highlighted by the Health and Safety Executive as an area for inspection and improvement,so with this in mind we feel it is important our customers have access to high quality advice and services.
We would draw your attention to the following which gives a brief overview of your responsibilities when using Lee Lifting Services.
A mobile crane may be hired under different conditions:
The crane may be hired as any other tool under CPA (Contractors Plant Hire Association) conditions but the following important points should be noted:
- BS 7121 “The safe use of cranes” makes it clear that the Hirer is in overall control of the lifting operation and has responsibility for providing suitably trained and competent personnel to ensure adequate supervision of the operation.
It is a specific recommendation that where the Hirer does not have the expertise to carry out the operation they should employ a competent organization to undertake the work on a “Contract Lift” basis.
- Advice sought from or given by Lee Lifting Services does not relieve or reduce the Hirers requirement to make there own independent assessment with regard to planning, supervising and controlling lifting operations.
- The Hirer should maintain insurance against any and all liabilities including damage to crane and equipment whilst contracted to them.It is possible that for an additional charge the Hirer may be given an interest in Lee Lifting Services’ own policy.
For hires under CPA contract lift conditions Lee Lifting Services will supply a supervised lifting service including planning and execution by fully trained and competent personnel in accordance with relevant regulations and codes of practice.
The following should still be noted:
- The customer remains responsible for providing accurate information relating to both the items being lifted and the location of anything on or near site (above or below ground) which is likely to be damaged by or cause damage to contract equipment or which is likely to affect the health and safety of any person involved in the work.
